Sigma Nu values scholastic achievement as one of, if not the most important part of the college experience and, therefore, academics take the highest priority in our organization. Our chapter constantly strives to assist each individual member in with their school work and study habits by setting goals and creating incentives to ensure we all reach our full potential in achieving academic success. We call this a personal scholarship plan, aka, positive accountability.
Each year Lambda Delta Chapter elects a Chairman of Chapter Scholarship. His sole responsibility is to ensure each and every member is provided the necessary resources needed to help maintain focus on academics. The goal is twofold: to either (1) reach or (2) exceed your personal scholarship goal. We have recently set up a new scholarship plan to reward and recognize those members who achieve the highest Grade Point Averages as well as those who make the most significant improvements from their previous semester GPA's. Other reward programs are in place for class attendance, most study table hours, and other academic-based achievements.
With these programs and efforts, each semester our chapter ranks high among the top fraternities at Minnesota State University, Mankato. This past semester we ranked second, though considering our size, our per member average ranks second to none. We hope to continue our academic success by continuously making chapter-wide strides. This past fall semester we had multiple brothers achieve dean’s list status (a 3.5 GPA or above) while several members achieved 4.0 GPAs. The previous year, one of our members was awarded with the Interfraternity Council's Scholar of the Year award.
Sigma Nu Fraternity Inc. sets no national GPA requirement for approval of membership. However, we do follow the NIC policy which states that incoming freshmen must possess a 2.3 cumulative high school GPA and any non-freshmen must possess a 2.25 cumulative undergraduate GPA to be considered for membership. These are the bare minimum requirements; they are not our current standards. If you would like to learn more about our Scholarship plan please direct all questions to matthew.skluzacek@mnsu.edu.
