Assumedly the most redeeming aspect of Lambda Delta is our involvement with local and national philanthropies. One may think we’re strictly here to be unscrupulous rowdies with no true agenda. But one look inside our operations should transform that stigma.
Just ask the families at St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, who direly need the funds we help raise through our annual letter distribution and football games in the Twin Cities. Last year, we helped hit the $30,000 mark along with several other Sigma Nu chapters across the Midwest. This year we hope to raise even more.
Sigma Nu, and Lambda Delta Chapter, are committed to service. Here, nothing is out of the ordinary, even scaring the daylights out of hayriders come Halloween, to benefit the Girl Scouts of America. How about the elderly citizens of Mankato who require our assistance in their homes via the local Vine Services? How about “Rake-The-Town” ? A day in which our entire chapter heads out to clean up the yards of those who are unable. Or even our local Community Service Project with the Highland Park Neighborhood Association, an on-going partnership in which we assist local community members with their yard-care needs.
Our capstone tradition, however, is Trike-A-Thon. Two trikes, one Lambda Delta chapter, and miles of Highway 169 provide a foolproof recipe for the charity of our choice. This last year we raised $1000 for our local Habitat for Humanity. Donations come in the form of sponsorships from area businesses. We then trike over 60 miles of highway en route to our chapter house doorstep. One can only imagine the camaraderie, the brotherhood, involved.
Ultimately, we’re satisfied with our past accomplishments. But the men of Lambda Delta constantly hunger for more action in our community. Our goal: to extend a helping hand to the University, our local neighborhood, and ultimately the Greater Mankato area, in hopes provide a sense of service, commitment, and satisfaction.
